Activity Button –
The activity button is a user interface (UI) element found typically at the bottom of a navigation pane in enterprise applications or role-based systems. It is designed to streamline user interaction by organizing and displaying list places—that is, specific views or data lists—based on work-related activities or tasks tied to the user’s role.
Purpose-
The main goal of an activity button is to:
- Simplify navigation by grouping relevant list places.
- Improve productivity by surfacing only the tools and views needed for a particular workflow.
- Support role-based interfaces, where different users see only the information and tasks that matter to them.
How It Works-
- Location: Found at the bottom of the navigation pane.
- Activation: When clicked, the activity button:
- Updates the navigation pane to show links (entries) to all list places grouped under that activity.
- Updates the content area (main display) to show one of those list places—often the one most relevant or previously accessed.
- Grouping Logic: Activity buttons are configured based on tasks or processes, such as:
- “Sales Management”
- “Inventory Control”
- “Customer Support”
Each group may contain different list places like dashboards, queues, or document lists.
Example Scenario-
Imagine a CRM system:
- A Sales Representative logs in and sees an activity button labeled “Sales Activities”.
- Upon clicking it:
- The navigation pane updates with links like Leads, Opportunities, and Pipeline Overview.
- The content area displays the Leads list by default.
- This setup helps the sales rep focus on tasks directly relevant to sales, rather than navigating the full system manually.
Benefits-
- Efficiency: Fewer clicks to access commonly used areas.
- Clarity: Reduces clutter by hiding irrelevant information.
- Customization: Can be tailored per role or department.
- Consistency: Offers a structured and predictable navigation experience.
