Active Presenter
Definition:
The active presenter is the participant in a virtual meeting or webinar who is currently sharing content, speaking, or leading the session. Their name—and sometimes their photo or video feed—is prominently displayed in a designated area of the meeting interface, often labeled as the Now Presenting pane or panel.
Role and Importance:
- The active presenter is typically responsible for guiding the meeting, presenting slides, sharing their screen, or answering questions.
- Highlighting the active presenter visually helps attendees easily identify who is speaking or leading at any given moment.
- In many platforms, the active presenter has additional controls such as managing shared content, moderating attendees, or controlling recording.
Technical Details:
- When someone becomes the active presenter, the meeting software automatically updates the Now Presenting pane to show their name and sometimes their photo or video stream.
- Switching presenters updates this pane dynamically.
- The active presenter can be the host, a co-host, or any participant granted presenter rights.
Example Use Case:
In a company webinar, the marketing manager is the active presenter while sharing a product demo. Their name and photo appear on the side panel so attendees know who is presenting.
