What an Access Provider :
- Internet Connection: The main job of an ISP is to give customers access to the Internet. This can be through different technologies like DSL, cable, fiber optic, satellite, or wireless.
- Account Setup: They set up user accounts with login credentials (username and password) so users can securely connect.
- Infrastructure: ISPs maintain the physical and software infrastructure needed to connect millions of users to the global Internet.
- IP Addresses: They assign IP addresses to users, which are necessary for sending and receiving data online.
- Additional Services: Many ISPs also offer extra services such as email accounts, web hosting, domain registration, and sometimes even TV and phone services.
Types of Access Providers:
- Dial-up ISPs: Older type using phone lines to connect, slower speeds.
- Satellite ISPs: Use cable, DSL, fiber optics for high-speed Internet.
- Mobile ISPs: Provide wireless Internet access through cellular networks.
- Satellite ISPs: Offer Internet via satellite, useful in remote areas.
Importance:
- ISPs are essential because without them, individuals and organizations cannot access the Internet.
